1. Purpose of the role:
To assist the farm manager with all farming responsibilities as well as creating long term strategic value through the implementation of new sustainable practices and the introduction of cash crops. This will be in line with climate change mitigation practices and through strong stakeholder relationships to optimize the use of technology not previously engaged in the farming environment.
2. Key Responsibilities:
2.1 Cost effective production of grapes/cash crops and optimal management of farms.
- Assisting the Farm Manager to ensure that Nederburg Farm consistently meets budgeted/ planned targets (quantity, cost, quality, income).
- Assisting the Farm Manager to implement a long-term farming plan aligned with the continuous improvement and strategic development of cultivars and blocks guided by the cultivar and product portfolio strategies as well as the climate change model.
- Implement viticultural &
farming practices to improve productivity.
- Implement new technologies to deliver on cost saving and/ or sustainability insights.
2.2 To ensure an effective and efficient farming operation to meet the day-to-day business requirements.
- Assist with optimized farming activities (strategy, budgets, and schedules) to ensure an effective, safe, and sustainable operation to maintain environmental, social and safety compliance.
- Implement new farming techniques and technologies.
- Assist and facilitate problem solving and provide technical support.
- Skills transfer and consultation.
- Efficient harvest process.
- Operational delivery on planned requests from viticulturists and agricultural specialist.
2.3 Build effective relationships with external and internal stakeholders.
- Build effective working relationships with contractors/ suppliers to achieve results.
- Build collaborative and trusting relationships with direct reports, manager, and colleagues to positively contribute to the attainment of goals.
- Supply technical support and ensure skills/ knowledge transfer at farm level.
- Mentorship to workers.
2.4 Ensure competent and motivated people on the farm.

- Ensure sustainable relationship between farm and union.
- Working with team in vineyard.
2.5 Develop and implement innovative or alternative viticultural practices, cash crops and BBBEE initiatives.

Quality, better results at same or reduced cost.
- Ensure that employees continuously strive towards achieving and exceeding world class production practices.
- Implement new ways of farming under changing climatic and economic conditions.
3. Job Requirements:
3.1 Education
- Relevant and recognized diploma or degree in Agriculture.
3.2 Experience
- Minimum 3-5 years relevant experience in Farming in a similar role.
- Valid driver’s license.
- PDP will be an advantage.
- Strong knowledge of technology trends, best practice principles, problem solving techniques and thorough understanding of the value chain.
- Microsoft Office
