Assistant Restaurant Manager (George / Knysna)

This position reports to the Restaurant Manager:
- Ensure positive guest service in all areas. Respond to complaints, taking any and all appropriate actions to turn dissatisfied guests into return guests.
- Oversees the dining area, supervises food and beverage service staff in accordance with operating policies and procedures.
- Provide feedback and coaching to the team regularly.
- Set five-star standards for appropriate team behaviour on shift.
- Delegate and follow-up effectively.
- Ensure communication and handover within department (Restaurant Manager and Supervisors).
- Monthly update on competitors and keeps track of their promotions and food/beverage costs.
- Innovative in terms of cocktails, introducing new trends in beverage market and creating events (coffee, gin or wine pairings)
- Excellent administrative skills.
- Understanding of stock levels and stock take cycles.
- Control cash and other receipts by adhering to cash handling and reconciliation procedures in accordance with restaurant policies and procedures.
- Ensure a safe working and guest environment to reduce the risk of injury and accidents. Completes accident reports promptly in the event that a guest or employee is injured.
- Train all employees on steps of service, sequence of service and hold them accountable to the standards.
- Ensure daily operational tasks are performed and completed.
- Ensure equipment is in proper working order and kept clean through personal inspection and by following the restaurant’s preventative maintenance programme.
Must have at least 2 years’ experience in the same or similar role. Formal qualifications and own transport are advantageous. Matric certificate and computer literacy are required. Must be able to work shifts, manage staff and understand hotel operations.
Salary range is between R14k to R18k, experience dependant.
