**Munich Reinsurance Company of Africa Limited (MRoA) has been operating in South Africa for 50 years, although the Munich Re (Group) was active on the Continent via Munich Re in Munich for some years prior to commencing the Southern African operation in Johannesburg in 1968. The Head Office of MRoA is in Johannesburg, with a client service Life office situated in Cape Town.**
This is an exciting opportunity for a Casualty Treaty Underwriter to join the dynamic Non-Life team. This role reports directly to the Operational Manager for Non-Property Treaty.
Your job
- Join a team of pricing experts and actuarial analysts in the pricing desk responsible for building and reviewing casualty pricing models and parameters.
- Acquire, assess, underwrite, quote and negotiate proportional and non-proportional Casualty Treaty business in the Sub-Saharan Africa markets directly and through brokers
- Provide tailor made solutions and ensure a profitable portfolio
- Check contract wordings and conditions according to MR underwriting guidelines
- Cultivate relationships with cedants and brokers for business development purposes and exploit new business potential through these sources
- Conduct market and portfolio analyses, and prepare reports
- Negotiate with clients on product-related topics and other class-specific issues in liaison with client management
- Use data analytics methods and/or other programing skills to enhance efficiency of the current methods and processes.
**Profile**:
**Experience**:
- University degree in actuarial science, mathematical statistics, statistics, econometrics or economy and/or suitable progress towards qualifying with a recognized actuarial society (ASSA, IFA, CAS etc.)
- Experience in general insurance or reinsurance (especially knowledge of PA, Motor, and Liabilities classes) would be advantageous
- Good level of pricing experience

- Sound analytical skills
- Good communication skills, strong interpersonal skills and willingness to share knowledge within the team
- High level of commitment and ability to work under pressure
- Solution-oriented with a proactive, efficient and independent work style
- Fluent in English
- Previous experience as a data analyst and/or process engineer would be advantageous
