political that could affect our global business and offering guidance to all parts of the bank Job Purpose Lead multi-disciplinary credit risk teams pro-actively and effectively managing credit losses through excellent credit risk management applying appropriately PBB Credit policies and guidelines The team operates across segments Wealth Personal Lifestyle Entrepreneur Business and Agri and all products personal retail products business lending and complex products Support business partners in understanding and meeting client lending needs understanding legal and risk processes and leveraging ecosystem methodology in pursuit of the Banks asset growth targets ultimately to support the Universal Financial Services Organisation aspiration Key Responsibilities Accountabilities Account and limit management Ensures that teams of CCMs CRMs and CROs adhere to the policies and guidelines as regards verifying pre- and post- conditions of sanctions loading of limits interest rates and reduction orders rehabilitation and regularisation of irregular accounts and actioning of various risk management reports Proactively assesses the risk management practices of the teams to ensure effectiveness simplicity and proactiveness Initiates proposals to simplify processes and remove duplications and non-value work Ensures policies and processes are updated as required Rolls out new and amended processes ensuring alignment between teams including collaboration with all provincial credit risk teams Engages product and centralised teams to integrate risk processes and account management with a focus on assessing and managing a client holistically Identifies deteriorating or worrying trends in portfolio performance and proposes and drives mitigating processes or changes Engages and collaborates with portfolio product segment heads and other teams to develop solutions and roll out processes mitigants Develops and delivers a proactive process to manage post conditions specifically ongoing financial covenants and annual reviews Proactively engages Catchment Heads relationship managers and credit evaluation managers to resolve outstanding matters and implement corrective processes where required Deals with any escalated or complex matter or complaint to ensure banks interest are protected and clients needs are met Engages Legal collateral or collections BS R as required to enable transactions resolve distressed clients or effect processes Ensures that teams including credit evaluation identify accounts or risk groups where there are indications of financial stress or declining trends and that appropriate actions are taken Manages Internal Audits external Audits and Credit Risk Reviews as required delegating responsibilities as needed Engages with these teams providing support and guidance ensuring processes and risks are understood and engaging them to ensure an effective audit process Understands the findings and recommendations of Internal Audit and Credit Risk Review and ensures an action plan is agreed and put in place to remedy Monitors team progress and ensures changes are embedded Through regular hind sighting of Risk functions identify control breaches which could lead to operational losses and applies suitable remediation High risk and distressed account management Ensures processes that deliver proactive active continuous management of Monitoring and Watchlist Accounts Proactive management of the CRC meetings ensuring meaningful engagements are held and distressed clients are rehabilitated or passed to collections effectively Ensures that teams actions Damage Control report Client Health Check to identify distressed clients or accounts which need rehabilitative actions Ensures an effective early warning process is followed by the teams proactive identification of deteriorating clients effective actions to support clients or arrest the deterioration management of movement between monitoring and watch list statuses in accordance with risk identified and policy Applies a holistic client view across segments to assess credit risk of a client and to propose solutions Develops processes to clearly define roles of Credit Evaluation Managers and Relationship Managers in the proactive management of distressed clients Applies a pro-active and solution orientated approach and drives solution orientation within the team Involves and engages with Business Solutions and Recoveries where required and supports them as needed Leverages their knowledge and ensures effective processes are followed Ensures teams deliver high quality schedules for High care Watchlist and Monitoring matters timeously Ensures all temporary excesses that are not reduced timeously are added to the Monitoring list Applies prudent credit risk management principles to ensure that loss as a result of NPLs is minimised by ensuring timeous migration to NPL where recovery is doubtful This includes adhering to processes to rehabilitate the account at early stage and making the correct decisions to institute legal proceedings once all the processes have been exhausted Visits watchlist clients as required Supports Catchment Credit Risk Managers in the functions where required due to mandate complexity or experience Collateral management Ensures that teams follow the collateral management processes effectively such as verification of collateral against the Securities Management Systems records when preparing agreements collateral release post approval by Credit Evaluations updating of manual collateral spreadsheets correct instruction of Bond Attorneys and monitoring of registration of bonds monitoring of pledged share accounts and the attached covenants as well as share payments within covenants various requests such as requests for sub-divisions third party bond applications release considerations alienation of land removal of restrictive title conditions consent for rezoning servitudes establishment of townships consolidation of property etc Ensures a consistent adoption of processes across teams Identifies gaps and potential failures in the processes and proposes solutions post an analysis of possible remediations Initiates improvement and simplification of collateral processes within the bounds of excellent risk management through an understanding of the legal risks and collaboration with the collateral teams Collaborates and engages with collateral to deliver a seamless client experience and to remove duplications Ensures an effective process to manage cash cover guarantees from issuance to drawdown including loading of pledge indicators Agreement preparation Delivers capability to prepare agreements across all segments and products Delivers capability to prepare agreements for complex deals such as leveraged and acquisition finance commercial property finance trade finance as required including collaboration with Credit Legal for non-standard agreements or clauses For high value exposures or complex deals reviews Business Term Loans Medium Term Loans Overdraft and Business Revolving Credit Plan agreements as well variation to these agreements to ensure they are in line with Sanction document within delegated mandate and policies Drives accuracy within the teams to ensure correctness of agreements and collateral existing and proposed and compliance documents to ensure borrower has necessary capacity to execute the agreement Supports Catchment Credit Risk Managers in the functions where required due to mandate complexity or experience Ensures that teams are trained and processes are in place to mandate teams to draft agreements facility letters and check collateral and compliance documents Training and mentoring Enables upskilling of team as required to perform credit risk functions following consistent processes specifically across segments and products Drives adoption of changes to processes procedures and policies ensuring continued stability of the team Takes ownership of the training programs for new staff as and when required and cross skilling programs of existing staff putting programs in place and identifying training to be done and on the job opportunities to learn Proactively provides credit guidance and advice to business through the sharing of knowledge coaching and assistance in improving the understanding and quality of credit risk Attends additional training and learns to enhance credit skills as required Mentors and coaches team to ensure appropriate skills within the team Conducts reporting and quality assurance on any other activities in order to facilitate development hind sighting Management information Develops and delivers ongoing operational reports to drive effective management of the credit risk function Provides input as required for various reports and portfolio management Extracts insights and identifies trends from the portfolio management and operation reports to ensure productivity of teams and proactive management of credit risk in the portfolio Engages and collaborates with portfolio heads and senior management to ensure that issues are identified and remediation plans or actions are put in place Stakeholder management Builds and maintains relationships within the broader credit team and business stakeholders Drives an understanding of operating as partners Provides proactive guidance on Credit Risk matters and optimises relationships with Business Partners by attending various Connects physically or via Videoconferencing and or telephone conferencing Ensures that service is provided to the satisfaction of all stakeholders considering service level agreements and a seamless client experience Reviews SLAs where client experience is compromised Facilitates and participates in Round Table discussions and Deal Implementation Forums Attends business and team connect sessions or squad meetings Supports and proactively leads the team to support business partners in understanding and meeting client lending needs and leverages ecosystem methodology to the benefit of the Bank and clients Project management Initiates projects and any ad-hoc functions including training of staff Ensures delivery of projects by the teams achieving the agreed outcome and within required timelines Implements best practice methodologies in areas of operations and channel management Initiates and drives continuous improvement on operational processes to enable one and done delivery excellent credit risk management and great client experiences Identifies process changes and engages with relevant stakeholders e g process owners to effect process or procedural improvements Standardises and simplifies processes and systems that will enable the business to deliver consistent client experiences Change Management Owns and drives the roll out of any new initiatives including the behavioural changes required and encourages and drives adoption of new ways of work new systems and processes as required Leads their team through changes providing support to team members Adopts changes and leads through setting an example People management Manages credit risk teams to ensure effective delivery of objectives for the Province and the Bank Develops a high performing team by embedding the bank s performance process regular performance feedback and coaching Addresses poor performance Motivates team members and ensures that they receive recognition for work well done Determines development needs of the team specifically identified talent and ensures that development opportunities training rotation on-the-job learning are budgeted for and executed Maintains a succession plan for the team by reviewing the skills of the team at least twice a year and has career conversations with them Interviews and recruits new members of the team including determining the appropriate salary with input from the Human Capital Business Partner Creates workforce plans for the area to ensure that current and future business requirements can be met Such plans should be revisited at least twice a year Uses workforce plans to obtain headcount approvals on an annual basis and as input into the financial budgeting cycles Creates quarterly leave plans to ensure adequate coverage Approves leave requests and leave sell requests When required initiates disciplinary processes for team members Resolves grievances raised by team members escalating only if unresolved Manages the operating expenses within Degree -Field of study Business Commerce Legal Preferred Qualification BCom in Banking Risk management or similar 8-10 years experience and Deep knowledge and understanding of Credit Risk Management collateral and collection processes within the banking environment Knowledge of products as offered by SBSA across segments Legal knowledge of lending agreements collateral agreements and regulatory
