PURPOSE OF JOB:
The Programmes Officer will coordinate cross-cutting projects of the Office of the Founder (OOF) and special OOF initiatives that drive GMT’s mission to put women and adolescent girls at the top of Africa’s development agenda. Specifically, she will spearhead Special Projects within the Office of the Founder, with a focus on leading knowledge management, archiving and Legacy Projects for the office. She will also the design and implementation social media advocacy and digital marketing efforts. The role will report to the Senior Advisor to Mrs. Graça Machel and will be based in GMT’s head office in Johannesburg, South Africa.
**Responsibilities**:
The Programme Officer will be responsible for supporting the following:
- Work with the Founder and OOF team members to ensure effective implementation of OOF strategic goals and objectives, and support Special Projects as defined in OOF annual strategic plans.
- Spearhead Legacy Preservation projects for the OOF
- Lead digital communication efforts for the OOF
- Design and ensure Special Project deliverables are met in line with project plans across partner mobilisation, budgeting and fundraising, communications, content development, event management, and outcome monitoring.
- Serve as a liaison between the OOF and partner organisations, as needed
I. OOF Special Projects (Legacy Preservation and High Level Advocacy Projects)
Legacy Preservation Project
- Supporting the design and implementation of Legacy Preservation Projects for OOF
- Identifying, organizing and archiving assets and intellectual property around the Founder’s work (i.E., trips reports, speeches, op-eds, press releases, formal correspondence, awards and honors, etc.)
- Document, profile, archive and showcase the personal and professional milestones of the Founder
- Support the production of publications and multimedia products on the Founder
- Develop pitch materials for memoirs, docuseries, film and other multimedia products
- Support the compilation of a media portfolio of OOF and GMT intellectual assets;
- Collate impact stories of the Trust, including engaging with Networks;
catalogue key strategies, reports, and other materials from the Trust’s programming over the course of its history as it relates to the work of the OOF
- Explore innovative opportunities to publicly showcase and document the work of African liberation heroes and feminist trailblazers, including our Founder.
High Level Advocacy
- Support background research, policy briefs, concept notes and other written and visual products to advance High Level Advocacy efforts to center women and adolescent girls at the heart of the African economic development policy agenda.
- Design and execute OOF-related online convenings and social media efforts, coordinate and moderate Facebook/Instagram Live/YouTube/TikTok sessions, and conceptualize online initiatives to advance OOF and GMT advocacy efforts virtually
- Support event coordination (ie convenings, roundtables, technical working groups, etc) to advance OOF advocacy efforts
- Effectively communicate with and coordinate activities of multiple high level global and local partners
II. Research and Knowledge Management
- Provide research and background materials required for internal and external communication collateral, including speeches, Op-Eds, interviews, traditional and social media content
- Support in the preparation of background documentation for all internal and external meetings
- Conduct desktop research, oral history/interviews, data collection and report compiling
- Drive knowledge management efforts for the OOF, knowledge management of the knowledge products, research, publications and curated content and assets from the targeted convenings and other initiatives of the Office of the Founder
- Improve the design, organisation, accessibility, and management of information as it relates to the work of the Founder
- Enhance exchange and sharing of information across GMT vis a vis work of the OOF
- Support legacy building and archiving efforts for the Founder
III. Resource Mobilization
- Lead research on prospective and current OOF donors, support proposal development efforts and compile background content for reports for donors of OOF
- Support with OOF grant management, report and proposal writing
- Craft and disseminate OOF related communications to donors, partners and affiliated organizations
IV. Administration
- Support operations around OOF meetings and capture meeting minutes and ensuring follow up of action items
- Create and maintain database of Office of the Founder stakeholder contact details
- Provide administrative support for Finance-related OOF compliance and procurement efforts
- Provide oversight to OOF intern
