**REGISTRAR - ALLIED HEALTH PROFESSIONS COUNCIL OF SOUTH AFRICA**
**The Allied Health Professions Council of South Africa (AHPCSA) is a statutory health body established in terms of the Allied Health Professions Act, 63 of 1982 (the Act) in order to control all allied or complementary health professions, which includes Aromatherapy, Ayurveda, Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture, Chiropractic, Homeopathy, Naturopathy, Osteopathy, Phytotherapy, Reflexology, Therapeutic Aromatherapy, Therapeutic Massage Therapy, Therapeutic Reflexology and Unani-Tibb.
The AHPCSA is** mandated in terms of the Act to**:
- Promote and protect the health of the public;
- Manage, administer and set policies relating to the professions registered with the AHPCSA;
- Investigate complaints relating to the professional conduct of practitioners, interns and students;
- Administer the registration of persons governed by the AHPCSA;
- Set standards forthe education and training of intending practitioners;
and
- The AHPCSA isalso responsible to advise the Minister of Health and the National Department of Health on matters as they relate to the allied health professions and to communicate to the Minister of Health matters of public importance acquired in the course of its functions.
The Registrar will be accountable for the following:
- Lead, manage and monitor the implementation of strategic frameworks and support AHPCSA and Professional Boards.
- Develop, review and update AHPCSAs vision, related strategies and structures and strategic objectives.
- Ensure sound international relations and strategic positioning of Council.
- Facilitate strategic planning sessions for the Council and the Boards.
- Review international benchmarks on best regulatory regimes and extrapolate to South African context.
- Oversee registration of health professionals and ensure compliance with the Regulations for registrations.
- Represent the AHPCSA at various public platforms to create public awareness on AHPCSAs processes and business.
- Oversee management of professional conduct processes in line with the Regulations.
- Investigate and evaluate new technologies, systems and processes to enhance services and manage risks.
- Oversee management of infrastructure and Finances.
- Manage and monitor organizational risks and ensure implementation of mitigation strategies.
**MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS**
- At minimum of a four-year legal degree obtained from a South African institute of higher education and training
- 5 years experience in senior/ executive management.
**COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS**
- Strong Leadership skills
- Experience in the medical law field or with legal experience in the administrative functions of a health statutory council or legal experience in the medical field, with specific reference to compliance, registration processes and the handling of complaints.
- Good knowledge of the law of contract, administrative law, law of delict.

- Sound understanding of governance structures
- Working knowledge of administrative law
- Thorough knowledge of educational, training and development structures of specific health professions
- Clear understanding of decision-making process in statutory organisations
- People management skills
- Excellent conflict resolution skills
